DCC represents a fertile, underground side of the early '80's NYC music. DCC operated in the unregulated interzone that gestated quickly and came to flourish after Michael Holman ("Graffiti Rock", Gray) had brought Afrika Bambaata down to DJ at the Mudd club and was doing Club Negril on 2nd Avenue, everyone was mixing together in the clubs, and the East Village Galleries were springing up. Original styles were on display, clones didn't quite exist yet . Around town clubs were filled with individuals partying on free drinks and whatever else - ('pass it on' was a commonly heard phrase). Instead of watching Cable TV, you had to go out almost every night or you could miss a change in the scene. Yello @ Roxy, Sex Gang Children @ Danceteria, Foetus @ Pyramid, Siousxie's party @ Night Gallery, Test Dept. @ The Ritz, Kool Herc @ Pyramid, Spear Of Destiny, Husker Du, Soul Sonic Force & Shango all @ The Ritz. In the art world, DCC's "At The Marble Bar" became a reference in Robert Longo's "Marble Fog" megaperformance @ Brooklyn Museum. Our next president (?) Arnie rampaged across the big Screen in "Terminator". DCC was brought together under all these flags. They made music that juxtaposed sparse hiphop club beats and fx from TV's shows and ads, and brought our boombox and crew backstage to chill before & after the show. They recorded at Unique, where the best engineers worked and coolest records were made. They weren't the types to do Calvin Klein ads or think people were not made of Stars (ouch) and we liked our sushi fresh.
